Us and them
Us and them.
There is no “us and them”, right? Because we’re all human and so fundamentally we’re all the same, here on earth. Then again, there is an us and them when we see how life can be so very different, in this very same world. But it shouldn’t be that way. Here’s just one example of how, and most importantly, how we can act to change things for the better, for people who need it.
A young girl’s fate is wide open at primary school. If she can’t go on to secondary school, her father can sell his young daughter as a wife. Unimaginable things may happen to her… in this version of her life 😢
However, there's another version. If she can go to secondary school, then her father isn't allowed to marry her off and those unthinkable things can be avoided.
In this version of her life, she'll have opportunities for further education, a career, to choose who she marries and how many children she has. A positive snowball effect! 🙏
Imagine the door to secondary school being the pivotal moment for your life. It’s no wonder these girls have so much respect and gratitude for education. To them, it’s everything. But it’s not available to them all.
Imagine this happening here in the UK. We wouldn’t tolerate it 🤯
It is happening in this world though. Somewhere you might visit for a safari holiday or to climb a certain mountain.
Every time I see how some people live, I’m stunned that we inhabit the same planet. It’s more than a world away, what happens to different versions of us 🌎
The resources a girl needs for her entire 4 years of secondary education cost a staggering £100. That’s it.
